TROY, N.Y. – The Liberty League has announced its weekly award winners in men's and women's indoor track & field and four Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athletes have been recognized. Nathan Marsan, Garrett Harms and David Kastner were named the men's Track Performer, Field Performer and Rookie of the Week, respectively, while Lindsey Rappleyea earned Rookie of the Week on the women's side.

A junior from Niskayuna, N.Y., Marsan paced the men's team at the multi-divisional Marc Deneault Invitational last week, finishing third overall in the 500-dash with a time of 1:08.44. He also helped the 4x400 relay team to fifth with a mark of 3:37.91. This is the first weekly honor of the season for Marsan, who is a graduate of Niskayuna High School.

Harms, a junior out of Newburyport, Mass., had an outstanding effort at the NYSCTC Pentathlon on Sunday, finishing second of 13 competitors with 3,236 points, which was just 10 points behind first place. Among the highlights through the five-event competition was his second-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 10.44 meters and the 1000-run in a time of 2:47.91. The Newburyport High School graduate also finished fourth in the high jump (1.83 meters), sixth in the long jump (5.81m) and seventh in the 55-m hurdles (8.40) to earn key team points toward the upcoming state meets.

A freshman from West Islip, N.Y., Kastner earned Rookie of the Week honors for the second time this season after finishing as the top overall rookie performer at the NYSCTC Pentathlon. He posted sixth of 13 competitors with 3,014 points. In addition to finishing second in the 55-hurdles with a time of 8.12, the former West Islip High School standout also finished fourth in the shot put (9.68m). He rounded out the competition placing fifth in the high jump (1.80m), ninth in the long jump (5.55m) and 12th in the 1000-run (3:04.09).

Rappleyea, a freshman who hails from Colts Neck, N.J., also had a solid effort at the NYSCTC Pentathlon, finishing fifth overall in the women's field of 14 competitors. She placed fourth in the long jump with a distance of 5.00 meters and was fifth in both the 55-m hurdles (9.59) and the high jump (1.49m). Rappleyea, who is a graduate of High Technology and Colts Neck High School, also finished eighth in the 800-m run (2:46.04) and was ninth in the shot put (7.49m), to earn key points for RPI toward next week's State Meet.

Points earned by the individuals at the NYSCTC Pentathlon are applied toward the team totals at this weekend's NYSCTC Indoor Championships. Both teams are in action at this year's State Meet starting on Friday. Action continues through Saturday in Rochester, N.Y., hosted by Rochester Institute of Technology.
