MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's and women's indoor track & field teams saw a number of strong performances dominate at Saturday's non-team scoring Wesleyan Invitational.  The Engineers, who were one of 19 teams in this year's field, saw four first-place finishes and a number of top-five performances.

Leading the way for RPI was senior Christopher Chang (Troy, NY/Tamarac), who picked up his second straight victory in the pole vault with a height of 4.60 meters at Wesleyan.  Sophomore Stephen Silber (Blossvale, NY/Mount Anthony Union) won in the high jump with a mark of 1.96 meters, while junior David Kastner (West Islip, NY/West Islip) was victorious in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.50.

Also finishing solid on the men's side was junior John Scanlon (Rehoboth, MA/Dighton-Rehoboth Regional), who was second in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:24.10.  Scanlon was also the anchor of the 4x400 relay team, which finished second with a time of 3:30.88.  Other members of the relay included rookie Dylan Landry (Pomona, NY/North Rockland), junior Matt Nafie (Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) and senior Josh Slocum (Irvine, CA/Irvine).

On the women's side, the Engineers saw dominant performances in the field events, led by sophomore Ivy Muchuma (Nashua, NH/Nashua North).  She won the shot put with a distance of 11.23 meters and also placed fourth in the 20-lb weight throw (14.47m) and fifth in the triple jump (10.02m).  Junior captain Lindsey Rappleyea (Colts Neck, NJ / High Technology/Colts Neck) also had an outstanding afternoon, finishing third in the high jump (1.57m), fourth in the triple jump (10.12m) and seventh in the long jump (4.81m).

In the track events, junior Olivia vonNieda (Ephrata, PA/Lancaster Catholic) was sixth in the 600-run with a time of 1:45.97, while classmate Marie Ferro (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) placed fourth in the 5000-run with  time of 19;15.80.

Both squads return to action next Saturday, traveling to Brunswick, Maine to compete in the Bowdoin Invitational.  Meet time is set for 12:30pm.
