TROY, N.Y. – The Liberty League has announced its year-end awards in men's and women's tennis and three Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athletes have been recognized.
Jarrett Regier was named All-League Singles, and also paired with
Brandon Mazzara at All-League Doubles. On the women's side,
Christina Ciamarra was an Honorable Mention singles selection.
A sophomore from East Amherst, N.Y., Regier posted a 14-6 record in singles action this season to lead the Engineers. He was 11-5 in dual meet action and 3-1 in tournament play, twice being named Liberty League Performer of the Week.
Last season, Regier was 13-1 in 14 matches at first singles. He paired with
Patrick Russo (East Northport, NY/Northport) for a 10-4 mark in first fight doubles play. The 2010-11 Rookie of the Year and former Clarence High School standout has a 27-7 career singles mark with the Engineers, and is 25-10 life doubles record.
Mazzara, a freshman who hails from Orange. Calif., paired with Regier to go 15-6 in 21 overall doubles matches. The duo went 13-5 at first doubles and 2-1 in tournament play.
Mazzara also had a strong singles season, going 12-6 overall in the second flight. A graduate of Villa Park High School, he posted a 12-5 mark in dual meet competition and was a two-time Liberty League Rookie of the Week.
A sophomore from Southington, Conn., Ciamarra helped the Engineers to a 12-5 record, posting a 13-8 individual mark in singles action. In dual meet play, she went 12-5 at the second flight. Additionally, she was 15-5 overall in doubles play with freshman Lexi Rindone (Prescott, AZ/Prescott).
Ciamarra played in 19 matches as a freshman in 2010-11, going 15-4 overall, including an 11-0 mark at fourth flight singles. The Newtown High School graduate was 12-6 in doubles action, including a 10-5 record when pairing with Jeanette Carillo.
The men's team concluded its 2012 season with a 9-9 overall record, while the women's team went 12-5.
