POTSDAM, N.Y. – Rensselaer goaltender
Lovisa Selander was named Second Team All-League Friday night in conjunction with the ECAC Hockey (ECACH) Conference Postseason Women's Hockey Banquet.
Â
Selander becomes the first Engineer to be named to the ECACH Second Team in the program's Division I era. Two years ago, the Sollentuna, Sweden native became the fourth player from RPI on the ECACH Third Team while being the sixth on the All-Rookie Team. Additionally, Selander became the first Engineer netminder named a finalist for ECACH Goaltender of the Year in 2016 while also being the second Rookie of the Year Finalist in program history that same year.
Â
This season, the junior went 9-16-5 as a starter in 30 of Rensselaer's 32 games. Selander posted a 2.22 goal against average and a .932 save percentage, while turning away 817 shots over 1,732:37 minutes of play. She registered one shutout in a 0-0 tie on the road at UConn with a 28 save performance.
Â
Selander recorded a season-high 46 saves in a 2-1 win at Princeton. She posted the second highest save percentage in conference play while also finishing eleventh in the country at the end of the regular season.
Â
Already the single-season saves record holder, the chemical engineering major broke Sonjia van der Bliek's '11 six-year-old career saves record in a 3-3 tie against Dartmouth. The junior currently has 2,935 saves and counting.
Â
After three seasons at RPI, Selander finds herself in the top ten of the single-season records 21 times. In addition to her career saves record, the goaltender has already etched her name in multiple other categories including ties (second, 14), appearances (third, 97), starts (third, 95), minutes (third, 5,655:28), save percentage (third, .929), goal against average (fifth, 2.38), wins (sixth, 28) and shutouts (seventh, seven).
Â
Over the course of her career, Selander has been named to the 2017 ECACH Preseason All-Conference Team as well as an ECACH All-Academic selection twice. Her four ECACH Goaltender of the Week selections in 2016 tied van der Bliek for the most in a single season.
Â
The Engineers went 9-17-6 with a 6-11-3 ECACH record. Rensselaer finished ninth in the conference with 15 points, missing the conference playoffs by a mere three points.
