A message from Ken Ralph, Director of Athletics

July 24, 2007

As I am sure you have read by now I have decided to step down from the position of Director of Athletics at Rensselaer to accept the same position at Colorado College. The last five years have been the most rewarding of my life and while I am excited about the new challenges that await me in Colorado, I will miss the people at RPI.

I would like to thank Dr. Shirley Ann Jackson for her faith in me during my time here. Dr. Jackson is a truly remarkable leader and I have learned a great deal from her over the years. Likewise I would like to thank VP for Student Life Eddie Ade Knowles for his support and encouragement as we made some bold strides in athletics. The future of the program is bright thanks in large part to the support from upper administration at RPI.

I would also like to thank the athletic department staff. They are a remarkable group of people who toil long hours to provide an exciting environment for our students. This past recruiting year was one for the record books and I believe that athletics at RPI is going to go through a period of unprecedented success due in large parts to their efforts. I encourage everyone to get out and see the teams play. This is an exciting time to be a fan of RPI sports.

The construction of the East Campus Athletic Village will also usher in a new period of growth for Rensselaer. This facility will provide an environment that will foster excellence in all endeavors. When it opens in Fall 2009 it will provide Rensselaer students with one of the best venues in the East in which to pursue their craft. Varsity sports, intramurals, and clubs sports will all be able to grow to accommodate the needs and interests of the student body. It will support the Rensselaer goal of being an institution with global reach and global impact.

I am really going to miss all the students of Rensselaer. From the student-athletes to the pep band to the student government – you have all had a profound impact on my life. I appreciate your work ethic, your honesty, and your energy. Your Rensselaer education will provide the groundwork for a lifetime of success. Thank you for allowing me to share this time in your life.

Rensselaer is an important institution and it is carrying on important work. I am proud to say that I have been a member of this community for the past five years. I hope my efforts have always represented the school in the best possible light. The school, and the community, deserves no less.

I will begin my new responsibilities at Colorado College at the end of August. I hope to have the opportunity to say goodbye to as many people as possible. I will always be proud to say that I wore the Cherry & White.
