Was a part-time cross country coach at RPI, but few were more dedicated at the school and the sport …Became the school’s cross country coach in 1917-18 school year, and coached the team to a 58-52-1 record over his 24 years … School’s track coach for two years (1918-20) … Passed away in late 1973, and in his honor, RPI started an annual indoor track and field championship … School started a weight room in the basement of the Alumni Sports and Recreation Center in his name … Said RPI cross country coach Dr. John Hudson of McDonagh, whom he ran for, “He’s the best running coach I’ve ever had. He knew so much about the sport, and got along famously with his athletes. And he worked with the marginal runners just as hard as he did with the gifted runners.”
