Kevin Croxton Named ECAC Rookie of the Week

Freshman forward helped men's hockey team to weekend split

The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has named Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete Kevin Croxton the Division I Men's Hockey Rookie of the Week for the period ending November 10. Croxton, a freshman forward, had two goals, an assist and was a plus-2 in two games last weekend.

In a 2-1 loss to Clarkson University on Friday night, Croxton assisted on the Engineers' only goal – a power play tally. The next night against St. Lawrence, the Calgary, Alb., native scored his first collegiate goal to tie the game, 1-1, in the third period. He then scored his second goal of the game - the game-winner – just 4:06 later and Rensselaer won, 2-1. Both of Croxton's goals were even strength and he finished the game with a plus/minus rating of plus-2.

On the season, Croxton has tallied five points (2 goals, 3 assists) and four penalty minutes in nine games. He earned his first collegiate point – an assist – in the season opener at Wisconsin (Oct. 11) before assisting on a goal at Army on Oct. 26.

Croxton, who is 6-3, 175 pounds, came to Rensselaer from the Camrose Kodiaks of the Alberta Junior Hockey League. In 62 games last season he had 38 goals and 48 assists for 86 points with 42 penalty minutes. He led the team in assists and ranked second in points. He finished his career with Camrose ranked sixth in team history with 139 points (60 goals, 79 assists) in two seasons.

Rensselaer, which is 5-5-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the ECAC, will travel to Yale and Princeton this weekend. They will be in New Haven, Conn., to take on the Bulldogs (1-2-0; 1-1-0) on Friday night (7pm) before traveling to Princeton, N.J., for a game with the Tigers (0-4-0; 0-2-0) on Saturday at 7pm. Both games will be broadcast live on WRPI, 91.5 FM and www.wrpi.org.
