Men's Hockey Announces Class of 2010

Two forwards and three defensemen among group of five newcomers

TROY, N.Y. – Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) head men’s hockey coach Seth Appert has announced the team’s Class of 2010. The group of five student-athletes includes two forwards and three defensemen. Three from the incoming class are from Canada and the other two hail from the United States.

“I am really looking forward to working with these high-quality student-athletes,” said Appert. “The two forwards, Jordan Cyr and Paul Kerins, are skilled with their sticks and they have very good speed, which will allow them to be effective in our offensive-minded attack. I am excited about Erik Burgdoerfer, Jason Fortino and Christian Jensen because they are each big and mobile and will help in our transition-style game.”

Jensen comes to Rensselaer having already been drafted by the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League. He was selected with the 289th pick in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

The 2006-07 Engineers return 18 players from this year’s team, including two of the top three scorers and their starting goaltender. In addition, Kirk MacDonald, the team’s top scorer in 2004-05 who was a medical red-shirt in this season, is also expected to return.
