COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Behind four goals and two assists from freshman Nick Billy (Redding, CT/Joel Barlow), the Rensselaer men’s lacrosse team defeated Colorado College, 14-4, in non-conference action this evening. With the win, the Red Hawks improve to 2-1 overall while the Tigers drop to 1-1.

The Red Hawks came out firing in the opening half, taking a 9-2 lead after two quarters behind multiple-point efforts from native son Josh Secora (Evergreen, CO/Golden), senior midfield Alex MacDiarmid (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) and reigning Liberty League Offensive Performer of the Week Devin Arnold (Buffalo, NY/Canisius).

Secora got things going in the opening quarter, putting a shot past Tigers goalie Scott MacArthur (Westport, CT) at 13:23. The Red Hawks held a 3-0 lead before Colorado College finally got one past Red Hawks goalie Ryan DeJordy (Albany, NY/Columbia) on a tally by sophomore midfielder Chris Love (Wooster, OH) at 7:44.

Rensselaer continued to put on the pressure as the clock wound down, heading into the halftime with a seven-goal advantage (9-2).

In the third quarter, the Red Hawks increased their lead behind back-to-back goals from Billy. The Tigers snuck another tally in off the stick of Hunter Combs (Denver, CO) to pull to within eight (11-3), but goals by Billy, Ryan Bigham (Newton, CT/Trinity Pawling) and Secora all but sealed the victory for Rensselaer.

In addition to Billy, the Red Hawks saw Secora post three goals and an assist. Arnold chipped in two goals and three assists while Bigham finish with two goals and an assist. Senior Mike Sampson (Columbus, OH/Upper Arlington) added a goal and an assist and MacDiarmid posted two goals and an assist.

DeJordy improved his record to 1-1 in the RPI goal, making 11 saves for the win.

For Colorado College, Love finished with a goal and an assist. Combs, Tom Dugan (Columbus, OH) and Joe Boyle (Dallas, TX) each added a goal for the Tigers.

In goal, MacArthur finished with four saves before giving way to Max Pluss (Denver, CO) who made 12 stops in the final 45:00 minutes.

RPI returns to action on Sunday when it plays at FDU-Florham (12pm). Colorado College is back on Saturday when it hosts the 6th Annual Colorado College Invitational, hosting Medaille (1:30pm).
