WAYNE, N.J. - Sophomore Sandy Turnbull (Upperville, VA/Chatham Hall) scored a pair of goals and freshman goalie Sarah Burcher (Lanexa, VA/Maggie L. Walker Governor's School) was forced to make just three saves in leading Rensselaer to a 3-2 victory over William Paterson this afternoon.  The Red Hawks are now 2-1 on the season while the Pioneers drop to 2-1.

Rensselaer, which held a 2-1 lead after the first 35 minutes, found itself in a tie game just 18 seconds into the second half as William Paterson's Chelsea Winkelspecht connected on a pass from Christina Ayusa from four yards out.

The teams continued to trade shots as the clock wound down until the 68th minute when Turnbull collected the ball from teammate Morgan Danner (McLean, VA/Langley) and put one past Pioneers goalie Christina Auger to seal the victory.

The Red Hawks, which saw Turnbull and sophomore Jessica Corrigan (South Burlington, VT/Northfield Mount Hermon) score in the opening half, held a 15-8 advantage in shots in the game.  RPI had a 9-3 advantage in the first half.

Burcher made just three saves in the Red Hawks goal while her counterpart, Auger, stopped 11 shots in the loss.

RPI returns to action on Wednesday with a game at Hartwick (7pm).  The Red Hawks then close out the week at home against Cortland on Saturday at Harkness Field (2pm).  Live stats will be available at http://sidearmstats.com/rpi/fhockey/
