TROY, N.Y. – The Liberty League has announced its year-end field hockey awards and three Rensselaer student-athletes have been selected. Sandy Turnbull was chosen to the All-League Second Team, while Joanna Aliprando and Megan McNamara earned Honorable Mention recognition.

A junior midfielder from Upperville, Va., Turnbull led the Engineers in a number of offensive categories, including goals (12), points (26), shots (52), shots on goal (35) and game-winning goals (1). She started all 17 games this season, helping Rensselaer to a 4-13-0 record, including a 1-6-0 mark in league play.

In her career, the Chatham Hall High School graduate has recorded 19 goals and seven assists for 45 points. Turnbull has also been named to the league's All-Academic squad this season.

Aliprando, a senior captain and defender who hails from Basking Ridge, N.J., started all 17 games for RPI. She led the club and was fourth in the Liberty League with three team saves and contributed offensively with four goals and two assists for 10 points. She was also fifth in the conference in shots on goal percentage (.824).

The Ridge High School graduate played in 58 games in her career, including 50 as a starter. Aliprando totaled five goals and four assists for 14 points and had nine career defensive saves. She was a multiple league All-Academic selection and earned all-league Honorable Mention in 2008.

McNamara, a Johnstown, N.Y., native, was eighth on the team in points (5) with a goal and three assists and was fifth in shots (19). She had a game-winning tally and was one of only four Engineers to start all 17 games.

The senior midfielder, who is a graduate of Johnstown High School, played in all but one game in her career (67 total), while scoring three goals with nine assists for 15 points. She has earned multiple league All-Academic honors and was also All-League Honorable Mention a season ago.
