TROY, N.Y. – The 2009 NSCAA Division III All-East Region Men's Soccer Teams have been announced and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athletes
Lincoln Field,
Jabel Prom and
Brad Shelofsky have been selected. Field was named to the First Team, while Prom and Shelofsky garnered Third Team recognition.
A native of Contoocook, N.H., Field led the team in scoring with 18 points on a team-best seven goals and four assists. A senior midfielder and captain, he was also tops on the squad in game-winning tallies (2), penalty kicks (4 for 6) and shots (41).
Field, a two-time All-Liberty League First Team selection, finished fourth in the conference in points per game (0.95 per game average) and fifth in goals per game (0.37 average). He was also sixth in shots (2.16 per contest).
The Hopkinton High School graduate, who was a 2009 ECAC All-Star Second Team selection, played in 73 games during his career, posting 16 goals and seven assists for 39 points. In addition to leading the team to an ECAC Upstate Tournament title in 2007, Field helped Rensselaer post back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Tournament in 2008 & 2009, including a second round showing this season.
Prom, a senior forward from Sandy Spring, Md., posted a team-best seven goals with an assist for 15 points through 18 games played. In addition to a team-high 23 shots on goal, he led the squad in game-winning goals with two.
The Sherwood High School native finished ninth in the Liberty League in points and was tied for fourth in shots on goal and fifth in goals. He was recognized as a Liberty League Offensive Performer of the Week once and was an All-Liberty League First Team honoree.
In his career, Prom played in 72 games, tallying 18 goals and four assists for 40 points. In addition to conference First Team honors in 2009, he was an Honorable Mention selection in 2007.
A sophomore defender out of Rochester, N.Y., Shelofsky anchored the RPI defensive unit as a starter in all 19 games. He had a game-winning goal and an assist for three points and helped the Engineers lead the Liberty League in seven defensive categories, including fewest goals allowed (10), fewest points allowed (1.37 per game) and shutouts (10).
Shelofsky, a former standout at Greece Athena High School, helped Rensselaer finish eighth nationally in team goals against average (0.51) and save percentage (.880). A Liberty League Defensive Performer of the Week once and All-Liberty League Second Team selection, he also garnered Liberty League All-Academic and ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District 1 College Division Second Team honors.
Rensselaer, which won the Liberty League regular season title, concluded its season with a 14-3-2 record and a 5-1-1 conference mark.
