Women's Year-End Awards

TROY, N.Y. – The Liberty League has announced its year-end indoor track & field award winners and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) head coach Colin Tory and his staff have been named the Women's Coaching Staff of the Year. Tory is assisted by Jen Adams, Louise Duffus, John Hudson, Warren Lutes, Don Paretta and Camille Ross.

Tory and his staff helped guide the Engineers to second place at the 2009 Liberty League Championships, which included five first-place finishes. The RPI women also set a league record in the high jump as rookie Lindsey Dubas (Windsor, NY/Windsor Central) posted a mark of 1.55 meters to win the event.

Rensselaer posted fourth overall at the nine-team New York State Championships and saw sophomore thrower Connor Ahlborn (Falls Church, VA/Peddie School) garnered National All-America honors at the 2009 NCAA Indoor Championships. She finished fifth overall with a distance of 16.44 meters in the 20lb. weight throw, just 3 centimeters shy of the school record.

The women also saw two individuals earn a combined five weekly Liberty League awards while a conference-best 20 student-athletes were named to the All-Academic Team.

In addition to the women's success, the RPI staff helped lead the Engineers men to its second Liberty League title and first since 2005. The team also posted third of nine teams at the New York State Meet and was 12th among 50 participating schools at the ECAC Championships.

Individually, junior Justin Metzger (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) represented the men's side at the NCAA Championships, earning National All-America after finishing sixth in the men's pole vault with a height of 4.92 meters. Five different players garnered a total of eight Liberty League weekly awards, while a league-high 21 student-athletes earned All-Academic recognition.

Tory, who graduated from Bowdoin College in 1993, and his staff have helped guide the Rensselaer cross country, indoor and outdoor track & field programs to a number of successes during his eight-year tenure as head coach. Among the top honors are a combined seven indoor and outdoor league titles and six New York State Meet Championship titles since 2001.
