Eight Named All-Regional From #15 Baseball

Five selected to First Team; Three to Second Team

TROY, N.Y. – The ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Teams were announced in baseball and eight Rensselaer student-athletes have been recognized. Patrick Reardon, Jim Devine, Nic Marchese, Camden Mamigonian and Andrew Mondo were named to the First Team, while Sean Wilkes, Mike Cieszko and Andy Opperman earned Second Team honors.

Reardon, a junior catcher from Troy, N.Y., hit a club-best .409 (79 for 193) with 22 doubles, a triple and 10 home runs. He set new single season records in hits (79) and runs scored (61), while driving in 54. The LaSalle Institute graduate led the team with a .689 slugging percentage and a .491 on-base percentage. Defensively, he threw out 18.2% of potential base-stealers.

A native of Castleton, N.Y., Devine batted a career-high .384 (68 for 177) with 10 doubles, five homers, 42 runs and 41 runs batted in. The senior third baseman and former Columbia High School standout slugged .525 and compiled a .469 on-base percentage, walking 25 times compared to just 14 strikeouts. He also earned All-Regional Tournament Team honors.

Marchese, a sophomore rightfielder who hails from Tampa, Fla., was second on the Red Hawks with a .386 (68 for 176) batting average. He had 14 doubles, a triple, nine home runs, 50 runs and 47 RBI. The Chamberlain High School graduate, who was selected to the All-Region Tournament Team, had a .631 slugging percentage and a .469 on-base percentage, while going 4 for 4 on stolen base attempts.

Mamigonian, a leftfielder out of Dover, N.H., batted .361 (70 for 194) in 49 games, had 19 doubles and nine home runs. A junior and former Dover High School standout also scored 50 runs, while driving in a school-record 60 in a single season. He slugged .598 with a .415 on-base percentage.

A junior pitcher from Clifton Park, N.Y., Andrew Mondo broke the Rensselaer mark for wins, going 11-3 with a 3.03 earned run averaged in 15 starts. He led the Red Hawks with two complete games and a shutout. The Shenendehowa High School graduate was also tops on the team in strikeouts (93) and innings pitched (92.0).

Wilkes, a senior centerfielder from Troy, N.Y., hit .360 (77 for 214) while starting in all 50 games. He broke his own record for at-bats in a season (214) and the career hits mark at Rensselaer (244). A sophomore utility player out of Stevenson Ranch, Calif., Cieszko went 2-0 with a team-best five saves and a 1.04 ERA in 20 appearances. He also hit .331 (46 for 139) with four home runs and 28 RBI. Senior lefthander Andy Opperman, who hails from Oneida, N.Y., went 7-1 with a 4.62 ERA in 64.1 innings.

The baseball team, which is ranked 15th in the country in the latest ABCA/Collegiate Baseball poll, finished the season with a team record for wins, at 37-13. The Red Hawks won the Liberty League regular season and were runners-up to Farmingdale State in the New York Regional of the NCAA Tournament.
