TROY, N.Y. – The Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III All-Region Teams have been announced and two Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athletes were selected to the All-Northeast Region squad. Sophomore Jen Bach and senior Sara Finkbeiner were both chosen to the Second Team.

The Gwynedd Mercy Academy graduate set the single-season school record for total bases and was just one home run shy of her own mark for home runs. An All-Liberty League Honorable Mention, Bach was second among the conference leaders in runs scored, on-base percentage and runs batted in. She was third in batting average, hits, total bases, slugging percentage and home runs.

She led the Liberty League in saves (3) and was fifth in strikeouts. This is the second straight All-Region honor for Bach, who was a First Team selection in 2008.

Finkbeiner, an outfielder from Napanoch, N.Y., batted .375 as a starter in all 40 games. She led the Red Hawks in at-bats (152), hits (57) and triples (4). An All-Liberty League First Team selection, Finkbeiner also added 34 runs scored with three doubles, 25 RBI and six stolen bases on seven attempts. As a pitcher, Finkbeiner posted a 7-3 record, appearing in 15 games. She had a team-best 2.33 earned run average, striking out 44 batters in 66.0 innings. Among the Liberty League leaders, Finkbeiner ranked fourth in strikeouts, fifth in wins and sixth in ERA.

Additionally, Finkbeiner finished her Red Hawks’ tenure ranked second all-time in triples (11) and total bases (291). She was named All-League in each of her four seasons at RPI and was also named to the All-Northeast Region Third Team in 2007.

The softball team, which is led by head coach Erika Lewis, concluded its 2009 season with a 26-14 record, appearing in the ECAC Upstate Tournament for the third straight season.
