TROY, N.Y. – Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete
Paul Cerone has been selected as a 2009 Division III Upstate Men's Lacrosse All-Star, it has been announced. A midfielder out of Ridgefield, Conn., he posted a team-best 21 goals with two assists for 23 points in 14 games.
A starter in 11 contests, Cerone also led the team in shots with 81 and was second in points, shots on goal (31), game-winning goals (1) and man-up tallies (2). He added 27 ground balls. The Ridgefield High School graduate posted at least one goal in nine games, including seven contests with two or more.
Cerone, who recorded at least one shot in every contest, ranked eighth in the league in shots per game (5.79) and tenth in goals per game (1.50). He was an All-Liberty League First Team selection.
In 44 career games through three seasons, Cerone has 38 goals and 14 assists for 52 points. He also has 109 ground balls.
As a freshman in 2007 he played in all 15 games, tallying 14 goals with seven assists for 21 points. He had two man-up goals and a career-best 42 ground balls. He was the Liberty League Rookie of the Week twice.
Cerone, a mechanical engineering major, played four years of lacrosse and hockey in high school, serving as captain of both teams as a senior. He was All-League in both sports and the lacrosse team's Most Valuable Player once.
Rensselaer's men's lacrosse team posted a 6-8 overall record and a 3-3 mark in the Liberty League this season.
