TROY, N.Y. – The ECAC has announced its year-end softball award winners and two Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athletes have been recognized. Sophomore
Jen Bach and senior
Sara Finkbeiner were both selected as Division III Upstate All-Stars at the utility and outfield positions, respectively.
A pitcher/first baseman from Lansdale, Pa., Bach led RPI in a number of offensive categories, including batting average (.448), runs scored (40), home runs (9), runs batted in (40), total bases (94), slugging percentage (.752) and on-base percentage (.517). She finished with 56 hits, including nine doubles and a triple, while playing in 38 games.
The Gwynedd Mercy Academy graduate set the school's single season record for total bases and was just one home run shy of her own mark in that category. An All-Liberty League Honorable Mention, Bach was second in the conference in runs scored, on-base percentage and runs batted in. She was third in batting average, hits, total bases, slugging percentage and home runs.
From the pitching circle, Bach had an 8-5 record in 21 appearances. She carried a 2.67 earned run average and struck out 68 batters in 89.0 innings, while holding opponents to a .266 batting average. She led the Liberty League in saves (3) and was fifth in strikeouts.
In addition to earning All-ECAC and All-Liberty League, she was also named All-Northeast Region.
Finkbeiner, a native of Napanoch, N.Y., batted .375 as a starter in all 40 games. She led the Red Hawks in at-bats (152), hits (57) and triples (4). An All-Liberty League First Team selection, she scored 34 runs with three doubles, 25 RBI and six stolen bases on seven attempts. She led the Liberty League in triples and was second in hits.
As a pitcher, Finkbeiner posted a 7-3 record, appearing in 15 games. She had a team-best 2.33 earned run average, striking out 44 batters in 66.0 innings. She ranked fourth in the league in strikeouts, fifth in wins and sixth in ERA.
In her career, Finkbeiner set the school records for hits (207) and runs scored (159) and finished second in triples (11) and total bases (291). The Ellenville High School graduate posted a .402 batting average with 17 doubles and 15 home runs. She was All-League in each of her four seasons and All-Region twice, including this season.
The softball team was 26-14 this year, appearing in the ECAC Upstate Tournament for the third straight season.
