SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - Sophomore
Felicia Bua (Gilford, NH/Gilford) surrendered just one run over 6.0 innings and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) softball team kept its season alive with a 3-1 victory over Brockport in game 3 of the ECAC DIII Upstate Championships. The Red Hawks improve to 25-13 overall while the Golden Eagles drop to 28-13 on the season.
The Red Hawks got things going early as senior
Julianne Bass (Costa Mesa, CA/Newport Harbor) drove in a run on a single to left field to put RPI up 1-0 in the top of the first. Sophomore
Genevieve Falco (Seaford, NY/Seaford) made it a 2-0 advantage in the top of the third with a double to right center and later scored on an error by the shortstop to make it 3-0.
Bua continued to hold Brockport off the scoreboard until the bottom of the fifth. With the bases loaded, RPI's pitcher hit the batter to walk in the Golden Eagles lone run.
Neither teams would cross the plate over the remaining two innings as Rensselaer held on to advance to tomorrow's action.
Allowing just one run, Bua allowed just six hits with six strikeouts and two walks in 6.0 innings. Sophomore
Jen Bach (Lansdale, PA/Gwynedd Mercy Academy) pitched the final inning, not allowing a run or a hit.
Offensively, senior
Sara Finkbeiner (Napanoch, NY/Ellenville) went 2 for 3 with a run scored. Falco also went 2 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI.
The Red Hawks will play again on Sunday at 10am against the loser of game four between Alfred and Union.
