TROY, N.Y. - The Cortland State men's swimming & diving team used a dominant performance to win the 2010 Henry Kumpf Invitational held on Saturday by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) at Robison Pool. The Red Dragons, who compiled 575.50 points, have now won the event in each of the last two seasons and four times over the last six years. Ithaca finished second, while RPI rounded out the top three.
Leading the way for the Red Dragons was senior Caleb VanSickle (Stanley, NY), who won the 500-freestyle in a time of 4:58.89 and the 200-free with a mark of 1:48.81. He also helped the 400-free relay team to victory with a time of 3:15.53. senior Jeff Moessinger (Elma, NY), who won the 1000-freestyle in a time of 10:30.05 and captured the 200-butterfly with a mark of 2:01.93. Teammate Dan Evans (Hamburg, NY) also had a solid outing, claiming victory in the 50-free with a meet record time of 21.28, while narrowly missing an NCAA B cut in the 100-free with a time of 46.82 for first place.
Additionally for Cortland State, senior Jeff Moessinger (Elma, NY), won the 1000-free in a time of 10:30.05 and captured the 200-butterfly with a mark of 2:01.93.
Rounding out the solid performances of the afternoon was Skidmore's Doug Pilawa (Chardon, OH), who picked up a sweep in the diving events. He won the 1-meter event by a score of 252.40 points and captured a win off the 3-meter board with an NCAA Qualifying Standard score of 281.50.
