TROY, N.Y. - The Liberty League announced its weekly women’s and men’s swimming and diving awards and four Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athletes were honored for their contributions. Tina Belletete and Mairead Lyons were named the women’s Swimmer and Rookie of the Week, respectively, while Julian Schott and Ben LeRose garnered the same honors on the men’s side.

A freshman from Winchendon, Mass., Belletete earned her first Swimmer of the Week award after posting three victories in each of the races she swam in last week's 135-105 dual meet win against Union. She won the 200-back with a mark of 2:15.31 and was victorious in the 1000-free with a time of 11:03.04.

Belletete, who is a former standout at Gardner High School, also helped the 400-medley relay team to a win with a time of 4:12.68. She is a four-time weekly award recipient, including three Rookie of the Week honors.

Lyons, a freshman who hails from Leominster, Mass., claimed victory in each of the three races she competed in to help RPI defeat the Dutchwomen. The Notre Dame Academy graduate won the 200-free in a time of 2:00.95 and claimed victory in the 500-free with a mark of 5:23.32. Lyons, who has earned Rookie of the Week twice, also helped the 400-medley relay to victory.

A junior from New Canaan, Conn., Schott earned his second weekly award of the season after powering his way to three victories in six races last week. He won the 200-breast (2:14.37), finished third in the 50-free (22.80) and helped the 400-medley relay to second (3:40.22) in a 145-98 loss to Union.

Schott then won the 200-breast (2:15.48), posted third in the 100-free (49.36) and helped the 400-medley relay to first (3:40.15) as the Engineers men placed third of seven teams at its own Kumpf Invitational. He is a graduate of New Canaan High School.

LeRose, a freshman out of Williamsburg, Va., posted second or better in all six races he swam, including two victories. He won the 200-fly (2:02.61), finished second in the 200-free (1:48.83) and helped the 400-medley relay team to second (3:40.22) in a 145-98 dual meet loss to Union.

The Lafayette High School graduate, who is a five-time Rookie of the Week honoree this season, then finished second in the 200-fly (2:02.43) and the 200-IM (2:05.01) while helping the 400-medley relay to first (3:40.15) as the RPI men finished third of seven teams at its own Kumpf Invitational.

The women are back in action on Saturday as they host the RPI Invitational (12pm) at Robison Pool. Both squads then visit Skidmore on January 30 (1pm).
