Engineers perform well in the multi-divisional invitational in NYC

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Rensselaer men's and women's track & field teams competed at the Albany Classic on Friday and both squads did well in the multi-divisional invitational.  RPI's men posted 23rd of 27 teams, while the women were 25th of 26 squads.

Leading the way for the Engineers was senior Justin Metzger (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa), who was third in the pole vault event with a season-high mark of 4.80 meters.  Classmate Mike Cipollone (Swan Point, MD/McDonough) was seventh in the high jump with a height of 1.96 meters, while senior Mike Zampi (Walpole, MA/Walpole) was 17th in the 1000-meter run with a time of 2:38.17.

On the women's side, junior Connor Ahlborn (Falls Church, VA/The Peddie School) was sixth in the weight throw with a distance of 16.00 meters.  Classmate Christine Koch (Seaford, NY/Sacred Heart Academy) finished 10th in the 5000-meter race with a time of 18:46.31, while rookie Marie Ferro (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) was 10th in the 3000-m event with a mark of 10:25.52.

Both teams are back in action on Saturday at the Wesleyan Invitational.  Action begins at 12pm.
