TROY, N.Y. – Behind a pair of victories from freshman Tina Belletete (Winchendon, MA/Gardner), the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women’s swimming & diving team won its own RPI Invitational on Saturday at Robison Pool. The Engineers, who posted 624.5 points, held off three-time defending champion SUNY Cortland for the win.

The victory for the Engineers also marked the first time in the 15-year tenure of head coach Shannon O’Brien, that the program has won its own invitational.

Belletete highlighted today’s meet, claiming victory in both the 1000-(11:02.76) and 500-freestyle (5:28.16). SUNY Oneonta’s Kristen Magliola also won two races today, posting wins in the 200 individual medley (2:01.36) and the 200-backstroke (2:12.63). Rounding out the solid efforts was SUNY Cortland’s Kristin Barnoski, who was victorious in both the 50-free (25.20) and the 100-free (55.58).
