HAMILTON, N.Y. – Powered by a number of solid performances, the Rensselaer men's and women's indoor track & field teams finished well at the Class of '32 Invitational, hosted by Colgate University on Saturday. The Engineers men were fourth of 17 teams, while the women finished eighth of 16 teams.
Leading the men's team, which posted 51.50 points, was senior
Justin Metzger (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa), who won the pole vault event with a mark of 4.42 meters. Classmate
Mike Cipollone (Swan Point, MD/McDonough) was victorious in the high jump, reaching a height of 1.98 meters.
Also performing well for the men was senior
Kyle Barden (Poughkeepsie, NY/Spackenkill), who was fourth in both the 500-run (1:08.62) and the 200-dash (22.99). Junior
Alec Marshall (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Central) finished second in the 60-meter hurdles (8.48).
For the women, who had 27 points, sophomore
Morgan Danner (McLean, VA/Langley) won the pole vault with a height of 10-00.00.
Junior
Jenna Covill (Seekonk, MA/Seekonk) finished fifth in the shot put with a mark of 11.04 meters and was also eighth in the weight throw with a distance of 12.69 meters.
Rookie
Marie Ferro (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) was fourth in the 1-mile event with a time of 5:25.32, while senior
Cassie Fortini (Sandown, NH/Timberlane) was fourth in the 500-run with a mark of 1:20.26.
The host Raiders won the meet on both sides as the Colgate men had 84 points, while the women posted 94.5 points.
Both the Engineers men's and women's squads return to action next weekend at the Dartmouth Indoor Classic on Saturday.
