KEENE, N.H. - Powered by a number of solid finishes, the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's and women's cross country teams had a fantastic outing at the multi-divisional 16th Annual Keene State Invitational. Both squads finished second in their respective races, which featured nine teams on each side.
The Engineers' men combined for 72 points, finishing second only to Division I squad, Dartmouth. Leading the effort for RPI was junior
Ben Levitz (Bronxville, NY/Bronxville), who was 10th of 83 competitors with a time of 26:47 in the 8k race.
Sophomore
Patrick Cavanaugh (Cheshire, CT/Cheshire) was 16th overall with a time of 27:04, while senior captain
Brian Debronsky (Beacon, NY/Beacon) finished close behind in 18th with a mark of 27:12.
Rounding out the top five finishers for Rensselaer was senior captain
Tim Ryan (Allendale, NJ/Northern Highlands Regional) and rookie
Sean Quinn (Brookline, NH/Hollis Brookline), who were 20th (27:18) and 21st (27:25), respectively.
RPI's women had an outstanding effort in the 5k event (92 participants) as each of the top five runners placed in the top 15. Senior captain
Danielle Cohen (Cranston, RI/Cranston East) paced the team with a sixth place finish in a time of 19:43. Sophomore
Marie Ferro (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) was eighth on the afternoon with a mark of 19:50, while classmate
Meredith Mayes came in 11th overall with a time of 20:17.
Senior
Kathryn Markowitz (Macungie, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) ran to 13th (20:35), while junior
Ariel Mingrone (Shelton, CT/Shelton) was 14th (20:41).
The Dartmouth women claimed victory over RPI, which had a combined 52 points in second.
