TROY, N.Y. – Junior goaltender Allen York stopped 28 of the 29 shots he faced and the Rensselaer men's hockey team netted four special teams tallies in defeating Boston University, 4-1, this afternoon, in front of 3,309 at the Houston Field House. With the win, the Engineers improve to 9-4-3 overall, while the Terriers fall to 8-4-5.

Senior Joel Malchuk (Brandon, MB/Dauphin Kings) opened the scoring at 11:58 of the first, when ripped a slap shot past Boston University junior netminder Grant Rollheiser (Chilliwack, BC/Trail Smoke Eaters) for a short-handed marker. Sophomore CJ Lee (Staten Island, NY/Green Bay Gamblers) carried the puck in the Terriers' zone 2-on-2, before leaving a drop-pass at the top of the right circle. Malchuk then buried a one-timer inside the left post for his second of the season.

RPI went up 2-0 at 19:50 of the period, when senior Chase Polacek (Edina, MN/Academy of Holy Angels) found classmate Tyler Helfrich (Calgary, AB/Prince George Spruce Kings) all alone at the goal line, where he snuck in a tight angle shot. The goal for Helfrich, which came on the power-play, was his team-leading ninth of the season. Sophomore Nick Bailen (Fredonia, NY/Indiana Ice) earned the second helper.

York (Wetaskiwin, AB/Camrose Kodiaks) made several key stops in the first five minutes of the opening stanza, include two saves during a 5-on-3 BU power-play to keep the Terriers' off the scoreboard. RPI took a narrow 10-9 shots advantage after one period of play.

Polacek made it 3-0 on man-advantage tally, just 1:35 into the second period. Taking a feed from freshman Brock Higgs (Kingston, ON/Kingston Voyageurs), the RPI assistant captain netted his eighth goal of the year, from just outside the crease.

A strong individual effort by BU sophomore Wade Megan (Canton, NY/South Kent School), brought the visitors to within 3-1 at 15:24 of the second, when he picked up his own rebound and scored just under the crossbar. The lone assist on the play went to sophomore defenseman Ryan Ruikka (Chelsea, MI/Jersey).

York came up big on a number of occasions in the second, including stopping a pair of Terrier breakaway opportunities. He finished the period with 11 saves, while Rollheiser made two stops before being replaced by junior Keiran Millan (Edmonton, AB/Spruce Grove).

RPI senior Bryan Brutlag (Lakeville, MN/Academy of Holy Angels) gave the hosts back its three-goal lead (4-1), when he scored on a two-man advantage with 42 seconds remaining the contest. Assists were credited to Polacek and Bailen.

York (8-4-3) stopped all eight shots he saw in the third period to earn his eighth win of the season. Rollheiser (3-2-0) finished with 10 saves, while Millan had 11.

The Engineers are back in action on Sunday, when they host the United States Under-20 Team for an exhibition game at the Houston Field House (4pm). Boston University is idle until January 1, when it faces Brown in the Shillelagh Tournament (4pm).
