HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Junior goaltender Allen York stopped 19 of the 20 shots he faced and sophomore Nick Bailen scored the eventual game-winner as the 14th-ranked Rensselaer men's hockey team defeated Alabama-Huntsville, 2-1, this evening at Von Braun Center. With the win, the Engineers improve to 10-4-3, while the Chargers fall to 2-17-2.

In the waning seconds (19:58) of the second period, Bailen (Fredonia, NY/Indiana Ice) broke a 1-1 tie, when he flipped a shot from the right point that snuck under the pad of UAH freshman netminder John Griggs (Barrington, IL/Cumberland Grads). The goal, which was unassisted, was Bailen's eighth of the season.

After being outshot, 15-11, through two period of play, Rensselaer held a 11-5 advantage in the final stanza.

The Chargers opened the scoring at 5:36 of the first period on tight angle shot by junior defenseman Tom Durnie (Calgary, AB/Canmore Eagles). Skating up the right wing boards, Durnie threw the puck at the net and caught York (Wetaskiwin, AB/Camrose Kodiaks) off guard for his third tally of the year. Assists went to senior Matt Baxter (Courtice, ON/Bowmanville Eagles) and Griggs.

RPI tied the score (1-1) at 13:05 of the frame, on a tip-in goal by sophomore Marty O'Grady (London, ON/Wellington Dukes). Carrying the puck into the UAH zone, he left a drop pass for junior Mike Bergin (Ottawa, ON/Smiths Falls Bears), who's shot was redirected in by O'Grady. Sophomore CJ Lee (Staten Island, NY/Green Bay Gamblers) earned the second helper on O'Grady's third of the season.

York (9-4-3) kept the hosts of the scoreboard over the final two periods, stopping all 12 shots he faced in that span. Griggs (0-3-1) had 20 saves, including 11 in the third period alone.

Both sides are back in action tomorrow afternoon for the second game of the series (4:05pm ET).
