TROY, N.Y. – Rensselaer director of athletics
Jim Knowlton has announced the hiring of Scott Sasenbury. A former marketing director at Global Spectrum, he assumes the role of Facilities Operations Manager for the athletic department.
“Given my experience working for a private facilities management company on a college campus and the relationships I have made as an undergrad here at Rensselaer, I feel prepared for this role.” said Sasenbury. “I am excited for the opportunity to work at the East Campus Athletic Village and assist with the future plans for expansion.”
Sasenbury, a native of Ava, N.Y., comes to Rensselaer after spending the last four years as Global Spectrum's Marketing Director for the Mullins Center in Amherst, Mass., where he developed and implemented marketing plans for the top three revenue generating events. He also planned and managed venue marketing, public relations and sponsorship sales.
“We are excited to have Scott join our team. He brings a wealth of experience and a passion for RPI Athletics,” said Knowlton. “As a former RPI student-athlete, he understands the challenges to achieve excellence in both academics and athletics at our institution, and will be a key player in helping our current student-athletes make that mark.”
Sasenbury worked as a marketing intern with MassMutual Center in 2006 and generated $100,000 in new sponsorships and advertising revenue over a three-month period. He was an employee of the AT&T Corporation from 1997-2005, holding a number of positions, including Financial Planning Manager, Business Development Manager, Marketing Manager and Investment Management Director.
A 1997 graduate of Rensselaer, Sasenbury earned a degree in Business Management. He was a four-year member of the football team and a member of the Theta Chi Fraternity. While enrolled at RPI, he was selected to the Epsilon Delta Sigma national management honor society and was recognized with the Willie Stanton Student Service Award. He is the class of '97 Alumni President.
Sasenbury earned a Master's degree in Sport Management from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2006, and assisted in the NCAA athletics accreditation of UMass Athletics.
