TROY, N.Y. - The Liberty League announced its weekly women's swimming and diving awards and three Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athletes were honored for their contributions at the UNYSCSA Championships. The Engineers women swept the weekly honors as
Meredith Eger,
Kelsey Manley and
Mairead Lyons were named the Swimmer, Diver and Rookie of the Week, respectively.
Eger, a senior captain from Littleton, Colo., had a solid effort at this year's UNYSCSA championships, finishing seventh or better in six of the seven events she competed. In the relay events, she helped the 800-free relay (7:54.00) and the 200-medley relay (1:51.93) post new school records as they finished third and seventh, respectively. Individually, her best performance came in the 400-IM, where she was fourth overall (4:40.39). Eger also posted seventh in the 200-IM (2:12.53), as the Engineers posted their best-ever finish at States, placing fourth of 17 teams.
A former standout at Heritage High School, Eger has had a number of strong performances this season, capturing at least one win in five of the 10 meets she was entered in. Among the highlights from her season included victories in the 200-IM and the 400-medley relay to help the Engineers defeat arch-rival Union in dual meet action in January.
A senior out of Southbury, Conn., Manley was the top Liberty League finisher off the 1-meter board at this year's State Meet, posting fourth overall with 371.05 points. She also finished sixth in the 3-meter event with 390.90 points.
This is the fifth Diver of the Week selection for Manley, who has had a number of top finishes this season. She has posted six victories in the 10 meets she has competed, including five off the 1-meter board. Additionally, she earned Diver of the Year honors at the Liberty League Championships for the second straight season, posting first and second in the 1-meter and 3-meter events, respectively.
Lyons, a freshman from Leominster, Mass., had an outstanding effort at the UNYSCSA Championships, posting four school records as she finished 10th or better in each of the six events she competed in. Individually, she recorded school record marks in the 500-free (5:12.76) and the 100-fly (59.42), finishing ninth and tenth, respectively. Like Eger, Lyons also helped the 800-free relay and the 200-medley relay squads to school record marks.
The former Notre Dame Academy standout has now garnered conference Rookie of the Week three times this season. One of the most consistent performers this season, Lyons has posted at least one victory in each of the nine meets she has competed in, including four meets with multiple wins.
The women's squad finished the 2009-10 season with a 4-3 dual meet record. In addition to their fourth place finish at the State Championships, the Engineers posted second of eight teams at the Liberty League Championships and won their own RPI Invitational for the first time in program history.
