SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.  - Rensselaer graduate student Whitney Coleman scored a team-high 16 points in a 70-67 win over Skidmore in the Liberty League Championship Game to set two prominent school scoring records.  The guard from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., now has 479 points on the season and 1,518 career points, breaking the school records in both categories.

Coleman's single season points total is one better than that of Kristin Kaczynski '03, who established the record in the 2002-03 season.  And Coleman's career total surpassed the record set by Kaitlyn Saunders '05, who scored 1,506 points in her illustrious career.

On Saturday, Coleman led the Engineers to victory and an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament - the second in school history (2000-01) - by making three field goals, including one three-pointer, and nine free throws.  She also had a game-high 15 rebounds, four assists and three steals in 37 minutes.

The Liberty League Player of the Year and a unanimous All-League First Team selection, Coleman entered the weekend leading the conference in scoring, averaging 17.6 points per game. She was second in rebounding average (9.0 per game), defensive rebounds (6.28), assists (99) and assists-to-turnover ratio (1.10) - all team-highs.  The Etiwanda High School graduate also led the Engineers in steals (58) and was second oin blocks (29) and minutes per game (33.2).

Last season Coleman averaged a team-high 16.7 points per game in 24 contests.  She was second in the league on her way to earning All-Liberty League and All-Region First Team accolades.  She also averaged 6.4 rebounds per game with 62 assists, 32 steals and a team-high 12 blocked shots.

The 2007-08 season saw Coleman compete in just two games, the second of which she suffered a season-ending knee injury.  She averaged 9.0 points and 6.5 rebounds in those games.  The year before, her sophomore season, she started all 27 games, averaging a team-high 13.3 rebounds with 6.3 rebounds.  She also had 74 assists, 48 steals and 10 blocked shots en route to earning All-Liberty League First Team honors.

Coleman was the Liberty League Rookie of the Year and an All-League Second Team honoree as a freshman in 2005-06.  She led the team in scoring with an average of 11.4 points in 23 games, including 16 as a starter.  She also pulled down 4.3 rebounds per contest with 55 assists, 38 steals and a team-best 15 blocks.
