Men's Results / Women's Results

HANOVER, N.H. – The Rensselaer men’s and women’s indoor track & field teams saw a number of student-athletes post solid results at the non-scoring, multi-divisional Dartmouth Indoor Classic on Saturday. Leading the way for RPI was senior Justin Metzger, who won the pole vault and narrowly missed his own school record mark in the event.

Metzger (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) posted a mark of 4.91 meters to win the pole vault at today’s meet, coming just shy of the 4.92 meter school record mark which he set in 2009. Classmate and captain Mike Cipollone (Swan Point, MD/McDonough) also performed well, finishing second in the high jump with a height of 1.93 meters.

David Kastner (West Islip, NY/West Islip), the reigning Liberty League Rookie of the Week, finished fifth in the 60-hurdles with a time of 9.11, while senior captain Mike Zampi (Walpole, NY/Walpole) was fifth in the 1000-race (2:02.08).

Senior Kyle Barden (Poughkeepsie, NY/Spackenkill) rounded out the solid performances with a third-place finish in the 400-m dash (50.65) and a sixth-place spot in the 200-dash (23.03).

For the women, freshman Marie Ferro (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) continued to impress in her rookie season. The conference’s cross country Rookie of the Year ran to first-place in today’s 3000-m run, posting a time of 10:20.48.

Junior Connor Ahlborn (Falls Church, VA/The Peddie School) was fourth in the weight throw with a distance of 13.85 meters, while classmate Jenna Covill (Seekonk, MA/Seekonk) was fourth in the shot put (11.37 meters).

Rounding out the top finishes for the Engineers was senior Tracey Knoop (North Syracuse, NY/Bishop Grimes), who was fifth in the high jump with a height of 1.58 meters.

Both squads return to action next Saturday when they head to Canton, N.Y., to compete in the 2010 Liberty League Indoor Championships at St. Lawrence University.
