WOMEN’S HOCKEY

The Engineers went 1-1-0 last week, beating third-ranked Clarkson (3-1) on Friday night, before falling at St. Lawrence (3-1) on Saturday afternoon. Senior Allysen Weidner (Wichita, KS) had a goal and an assist in the two games.

Rensselaer (12-11-6; 9-5-4 ECACH) returns to the Houston Field House this weekend, when it hosts sixth-ranked Harvard and Dartmouth on Friday (7pm) and Saturday (4pm), respectively. MEN’S HOCKEY

Rensselaer went 1-0-1 last week, tying St. Lawrence on Friday (3-3), before edging Clarkson on Saturday (2-1). Junior Bryan Brutlag (Lakeville, MN) had a goal and an assist on the weekend, including the game-winning tally against the Golden Knights. RPI (15-12-3; 8-6-2 ECAC Hockey) hits the road for a pair of road league games against Harvard and Dartmouth, this Friday (7pm) and Saturday (7pm), respectively.

SWIMMING & DIVING

The Engineers dropped a dual meet at Hamilton on Saturday afternoon. The Continentals’ men claimed a 130-102 victory, while the Hamilton women were victorious, 127-112. Pacing Rensselaer at the meet was freshman Tina Belletete (Winchester, MA), who won the 500-free in a time of 5:25.60 and also claimed victory in the 1000-free with a mark of 10:58.05. Both squads are now idle until the UNYSCSA State Championships in Syracuse, N.Y. The women kick things off on February 18-20, while the men’s squad will compete from February 26-28, also in Syracuse.


MEN’S BASKETBALL

The Engineers went 2-0 last week, topping Clarkson on Friday (59-53) and St. Lawrence on Saturday (66-61). Junior Travis Jones (East Greenbush, NY) scored a team-high 14 points on 4 of 9 shooting from beyond the arc to help beat the Saints for the second time this season. Rensselaer (13-6; 5-4 Liberty League) hits the road for a pair of conference games at area-rivals Skidmore and Union on Friday (8pm) and Saturday (4pm), respectively.

Junior Allison Connor (Hudson, NY) averaged 12.5 points and 7.0 rebounds in the two games. The Engineers (12-8; 7-2 Liberty League) are back in action this weekend, when they visit area-rivals Skidmore and Union on Friday (6pm) and Saturday (2pm), respectively.

TRACK & FIELD

The Engineers saw a number of student-athletes post solid results at the non-scoring, multi-divisional Dartmouth Indoor Classic on Saturday. Leading the way on the women’s side was freshman Marie Ferro# (Endwell, NY), who ran to a first-place finish in the 3000-m run, posting a time of 10:20.48. Both squads return to action next Saturday when they head to Canton, N.Y., to compete in the 2010 Liberty League Indoor Championships at St. Lawrence University.
