Engineers men currently 21st of 28 teams through day one

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The first day of action at the 2010 ECAC Championships has concluded and through the first 18 events, the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's and women's indoor track & field teams have performed well.  The Engineers men picked up four points and rank 21st of 28 competing teams, while the women were unable to get on the points board today, but look to gain ground on Saturday.

Leading the men's effort on day one was senior Justin Metzger (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa), who finished fifth in the pole vault with an NCAA Provisional mark of 4.72 meters (15-05.75).  Also finishing solid was junior Garrett Harms (Newburyport, MA/Newburyport), who was 10th overall in the indoor pentathlon with a score of 3,134 points.

On the women's side, junior Christine Koch (Seaford, NY/Sacred Heart Academy) placed 15th in the 5000-meter run with a time of 18:35.67, while the women's distance medley relay was 11th overall with a mark of 12:52.53.

Ithaca currently leads the women's meet, while the Cortland State men have the first position on the men's side heading into Saturday's day two.  Action at this year's meet will conclude tomorrow, with the first even beginning at 10am.
