WOMEN'S HOCKEY
The Engineers went 0-1 last week, falling to eighth-ranked Cornell, 5-4, in the ECAC Hockey Semifinals, on Friday night in Ithaca. Senior
Whitney Naslund (Bloomington, MN) led a late comeback after trailing 5-1, midway through the third period, scoring two goals, while adding an assist earlier in the contest. Rensselaer concludes its 2009-10 season with a 16-15-6 overall record, including an 11-7-4 mark in ECAC Hockey.
MEN'S HOCKEY
Rensselaer went 1-2 last week, dropping a best-of-three ECAC Hockey First Round series with Brown at the Houston Field House. The Bears opened the series with a 3-1 win on Friday, before the Engineers evened the series at 1-1 on Saturday with a 4-1 victory. Brown then took the deciding Game 3, 3-2 on Sunday night. Senior
Paul Kerins (Weston, ON) netted a pair of goals and dished out an assist in the series for RPI, which concludes its season with a 18-17-4 overall record. The Engineers went 10-9-3 in conference play.
MEN'S BASKETBALL
The Engineers went 0-1 last week, dropping their ECAC Upstate Tournament Semifinal match-up with Ithaca, 88-67, on Saturday night. Seniors
Ricky Philatre (Randolph, MA) and
Tim Rupp (Staten Island, NY) each recorded double-doubles in their final collegiate contests, as Philatre scored a team-high 17 points with 11 rebounds, while Rupp dropped 11 points and hauled in 10 boards. Rensselaer concludes its season with a 15-10 record, which included a 7-7 mark in the Liberty League.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Rensselaer went 0-1 last week, falling to Southern Maine, 74-63, in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament, in Amherst, Mass. Graduate student
Whitney Coleman (Rancho Cucamonga, CA) recorded 12 points, four rebounds, three assists, two blocks and three steals against the Huskies. She finishes her career at RPI with 1,530 points – the most in school history. The Engineers close out 2009-10 with a 17-11 overall record, including a 10-4 Liberty League mark.
TRACK & FIELD
Both teams took part in the 2010 ECAC Indoor Championships, which came to a close on Saturday. The men's side finished eighth out of 48 schools, while the women ended up 38th out of 43. Pacing the men was junior
Nathan Marsan (Niskayuna, NY) turned a victory in the 500m dash in a time of 1:07.21, while the women saw senior
Tracey Knoop (North Syracuse, NY) finished sixth in the high-jump at a height of 1.58 meters.
WOMEN'S TENNIS
The Engineers were idle last week, but return to the courts on March 20, when they visit St. Lawrence (1pm).
MEN'S LACROSSE
The Engineers went 2-0 last week, opening their season with victories over first-year program Mount Saint Mary (25-1) and Rochester Institute of Technology (13-12). Senior
Bryant Johnson (Minnetonka, MN) picked up three goals and an assist on the week, including the game-winning marker against RIT with 7.7 left in the 4th quarter. Rensselaer (2-0) is back in action on Thursday, when it faces SUNY-Potsdam on the team's Spring Trip in Clearwater, Fla. (11am).
WOMEN'S LACROSSE
Rensselaer went 1-0 last week, downing Western New England College, 13-7, on Tuesday in its season opener. Freshman
Alissa Peterson (Gaithersburg, MD) notched a game-high four goals and added an assist. The Engineers (1-0) hit the road this week on their annual Spring Trip, when they face Wesleyan University on Tuesday (4pm) and Simmons College on Friday (1pm) in West Palm Beach, Fla.
SOFTBALL
The Engineers went 0-4 last week, dropping their first four games of the season on their Spring Trip in Florida. Rensselaer is on the diamond all week, including games on Monday against Elizabethtown College (11:30am) and Dominican University (1pm). RPI will also play The College of New Jersey (Wed. at 11:30am), Haverford (Wed. at 1:30pm), Pine Manor (Thu. at 11:30am), Lesley (Thu. at 1:30pm), Simmons (Fri. at 9:30am) and Wisconsin-Lutheran (Fri. at 11:30am) on their trip, which concludes on Friday.
BASEBALL
Rensselaer went 2-0 to open its 2010 campaign, last week, topping Mount Aloysius (9-7) on Saturday and Husson (8-5) on Sunday. Seniors
Camden Mamigonian (Dover, NH) and
Scott Robinson (Schenectady, NY) homered on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. RPI is back in action on Monday against Webster University (2:30pm) in Winter Haven, Fla. The Engineers will also face Thomas More (Tue. at 9:30am), Keystone (Wed. at 3pm), WPI (Thu. at 9:30am) and Mount Saint Mary (Fri. at 6pm), before closing out their Spring Trip on Saturday against Wheaton College (5pm).
