TROY, N.Y. – Four Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athletes have been selected to the 2010 ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District 1 College Division Softball and Baseball Teams, as chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Becky Bailey,
Patrick Reardon and
Camden Mamigonian were named to the First Team in softball and baseball, respectively, while
Andrew Mondo garnered Second Team recognition. As First Team honorees, Bailey, Reardon and Mamigonian are now eligible for National Academic All-America consideration.
Bailey, a senior shortstop from Rome, N.Y., is a chemical engineering major with a 3.95 cumulative GPA. She has been a Dean's List selection every semester at Rensselaer and is a multiple Liberty League All-Academic selection. A graduate of Holland Patent High School, Bailey batted .348 this season with 46 hits in 132 at-bats. The three-time captain was among the Liberty League leaders this season in stolen bases (10 of 12), runs (32), hits and batting average. An All-League Second Team selection in each of the last two seasons, Bailey was an Academic All-America Second Team selection a year ago.
A senior catcher and captain out of Troy, N.Y., Reardon is a business & management major with a 3.31 grade point average. A Liberty League All-Academic and multiple Dean's List honoree, he was the team's leading hitter, posting a .385 average as a starter in all 40 games. Ranking sixth nationally in walks (37) and 17th in walks per game (0.93), Reardon led the conference in a number of categories, including home runs (7), doubles (14), walks and slugging percentage (.695). A three-time All-Liberty League honoree, the LaSalle High School graduate was a pre-season All-America selection in 2010.
Mamigonian, a senior from Dover, N.H., is a physics major with a 3.71 cumulative grade point average. A leftfielder out of Dover High School, he batted .378 with 33 runs and a team-best 36 runs batted in. Ranked eighth nationally in sacrifice flies (7), he led the Liberty League in home runs (7) and total bases (92), while finishing third in the conference in hits (56), doubles (11), slugging percentage (.622) and RBI. This is the third straight season in which Mamigonian has been named to the Academic All-District First Team, having garnered Academic All-America Second Team honors a season ago.
A senior pitcher out of Clifton Park, N.Y., Mondo is a management major with a 3.41 grade point average. A multiple Dean's List and Liberty League All-Academic honoree, he was one of the team's top hurlers in 2010, posting a 5-2 record and a 2.17 earned run average in 10 games. The Liberty League leader in games started (10) and strikeouts (61), he pitched 66.1 innings, allowing 16 earned runs and a .243 opposition batting average. The Shenendehowa High School graduate also had two complete games and surrendered just 15 walks.
The softball team finished its season with a 19-18-1 mark, including 4-4 record in Liberty League play, advancing to the Championship Round of the first ever Liberty League Tournament. The baseball team concluded its season with a 24-16 overall record, including a 13-11 mark in the Liberty League.
