TROY, N.Y. – The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) has announced its All-Regional teams for the 2010 season and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete
Sam Fennessey was named to the All-Empire Region Second Team. Over 224 players were recognized on this year's teams, which span over seven regions in Division III.
A senior midfielder out of Gansevoort, N.Y., Fennessey posted 17 goals with five assists for 22 points as a starter in all 14 games. In addition to leading the team with three game-winning goals, she posted 42 shots (25 on goal) with 35 ground balls and 19 draw controls.
The team captain and an All-Liberty League First Team selection, Fennessey recorded 12 caused turnovers for the Engineers and ranked third in the conference in game-winning tallies. She helped lead the squad to its first-ever berth in the Liberty League Tournament, posting an 8-6 record with a 5-3 conference mark.
A multiple Liberty League All-Academic selection in her career, Fennessey posted 32 points during her junior season, recording 21 goals with 11 assists. She led the team in draw controls with 39, while scooping up 26 ground balls and causing 11 turnovers.
In her sophomore season, Fennessey was second on the team in points (30) and goal (27). She had three assists and finished the season as the team leader in ground balls (38) and shots on goal (52). Fennessey went 7 for 16 on free position attempts and had nine caused turnovers.
During her freshman campaign, she was second on the team in points with 30. Leading the team in goals (27), Fennessey also produced squad-best numbers in ground balls (44) and draw controls (22).
A former standout at Saratoga Springs High School, Fennessey started all 57 games of her career. She recorded 114 points on 92 goals and 22 assists, while also posting 143 ground balls, 112 draw controls and 37 caused turnovers.
