TROY, N.Y. – The 2010 ESPN The Magazine National Academic All-America College Division Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Teams have been announced and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete
Ariel Hubert has been named to the First Team. This is the first career honor for Hubert, who is the sixth RPI student-athlete this season to garner Academic All-America recognition.
Hubert, who hails from Newport, N.H., graduated in May with a degree in biology. Posting a cumulative grade point average of 4.00, she was a multiple Dean's List and Liberty League All-Academic selection in her career.
The former Greater Claremont Christian High School standout, who is a member of the Tri-Beta Biological Honor Society, is also a Rensselaer Leadership Award honoree and was recently selected as the recipient of the 2010 Ballesian Prize, given to RPI's top academic student-athlete. A certified EMT, Hubert will attend medical school in the fall of 2010.
Hubert captained both the women's cross country and track & field teams in 2010, leading the cross country squad to the NCAA Championship for the first time in school history. Competing in all nine races, she posted her best finish at the Engineers' Cup, finishing 11th overall. Hubert also helped the team post its best-ever finish at the State Meet (2nd) and the NCAA Atlantic Regionals (5th).
Additionally, she helped the RPI women win the 2010 Liberty League Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The squad also placed second and third overall at the New York State Indoor and Outdoor Championships, respectively.
In her career, Hubert was a two-time runner-up in the 4x800 relay at the NYSCTC Championships, as well as an ECAC qualifier in multiple events. She was also a member of the Rensselaer women's soccer team for two seasons.
