Weekly Review & Preview

MEN'S HOCKEY

Rensselaer split a weekend series against Clarkson and St. Lawrence last week, falling 3-2 in overtime to the Golden Knights, before rolling past the Saints, 5-3, the following day. Senior Chase Polacek (Edina, MN) had a goal and two assists in the victory. #10 RPI (12-5-3; 4-4-0 ECAC Hockey) is back in action this weekend, traveling to Cornell and Colgate for a pair of ECAC Hockey contests on Friday and Saturday, respectively. Both games are set to begin at 7pm.

WOMEN'S HOCKEY

The Engineers posted their first conference sweep of the season, defeating Dartmouth (5-2) and Harvard (2-1) last week. Sophomore Andie Le Donne (Toronto, ON) recorded the game-winning goal against the Crimson and also had an assist in each game, while senior netminder Sonja van der Bliek (Toronto, ON) posted the 50th win of her career on Saturday. Rensselaer (8-7-6; 6-3-1 ECACH), which moved into fourth place in the league standings with last weekend's wins, are back in action on Friday and Saturday with critical conference games against #2 Cornell (7pm) and Colgate (4pm), respectively at the Houston Field House.

SWIMMING & DIVING

Rensselaer's squads return to the pool on Friday in a dual meet against Union in Schenectady (6pm). The Engineers' men will then host the Kumpf Invitational on Saturday, welcoming six other squads to Robison Pool (12pm).

MEN'S BASKETBALL

Senior Mike Brion (Nashua, NH) scored a team-high 16 points, but Rensselaer fell in its only contest last week – an 85-71 loss to Stevens Institute. Rensselaer (6-4) opens Liberty League play this weekend, hosting St. Lawrence and Clarkson on Friday (8pm) and Saturday (4pm), respectively at East Campus Arena.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Despite a game-best 14 points from senior Linda Larsen (Kobenhavn V., Denmark), the Engineers were unable to get past Tufts in the championship game of the Springfield/Naismith Classic last week, falling 78-59. RPI (4-7) begins the Liberty League portion of its schedule this weekend, hosting St. Lawrence and Clarkson on Friday (6pm) and Saturday (2pm) at East Campus Arena.

INDOOR TRACK & FIELD

Under the direction of 11th-year head coach Colin Tory, the RPI men's and women's indoor track & field teams open their 2011 schedule this weekend in a four-team meet at Bowdoin. The Engineers will compete against the host Polar Bears, along with Middlebury and long-time rival, WPI. The meet is set to begin at 12pm on Saturday.

SPORT ALMANACS

The 2010-11 season marks the debut of the RPI Athletics Almanacs, a comprehensive look at the rosters, stats and histories of many of the department's varsity programs. To date, there are eight almanacs available, including men's and women's soccer, field hockey, men's and women's hockey, women's basketball, men's lacrosse, baseball and softball. More will be available throughout the season, listed in each individual sport page on http://www.rpiathletics.com/Almanacs.

**As is the case with 21 of Rensselaer's 23 intercollegiate programs (exceptions are football and men's hockey), there is no admission charged for home games.
