ITHACA, N.Y. - Senior Tyler Roeszler scored a pair of goals to lead the Cornell men's hockey team to a 5-1 win over No. 9/10 Rensselaer on Friday night at Lynah Rink. Mike Devin chipped in with a goal and an assist in the win for the Big Red, which won its third straight league contest.

Joe Devin and Rodger Craig also scored for Cornell, as the Big Red improved to 7-8-1 overall and 5-4 in ECAC Hockey action. Greg Miller added two assists and Locke Jillson, Jordan Kary and Patrick Kennedy each added one, with Mike Garman making 21 saves in earning his fourth victory of the year.

For Rensselaer, which falls to 12-6-3 overall and 4-5 in ECAC Hockey action, Tyler Helfrich scored a power-play goal, with Chase Polacek and Nick Bailen both adding assists on the play. Allen York got the start in goal and stopped 22 of the 27 shots he faced, while Bryce Merriam came on in relief with 6:41 to play and stopped the only shot he faced in the game's closing minutes.

Cornell got on the board first with Roeszler's first goal of the night, fishing the puck out of the skates of a Rensselaer defenseman deep in the Engineer zone and wristing a shot from between the circles at the 9:14 mark of the first period. The Big Red would take that lead into the second period, but Helfrich's wrist shot from the faceoff dot to the left of Garman with RPI on a 5-on-3 advantage beat the junior netminder, knotting the score at one just 1:03 into the second period.

Joe Devin then put the Big Red ahead to stay with his goal at the 13:55 mark of the period, popping in a rebound off a shot from Mike Devin at the point. That lead stood until midway through the third period when Roeszler scored his second of the night, beating York on a breakaway, slipping the puck between the outstretched arm and the goalpost for the 3-1 lead at the 10:09 mark of the third period. Mike Devin then added to the lead with his power-play tally at the 13:19 mark of the period, firing home a shot with Cornell on a 5-on-3 advantage.
