TROY, N.Y.  – Powered by a four-goal second period, the Cornell University downed Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), 6-1, in ECAC Hockey action on Friday. Six different players netted goals for the second-ranked Big Red, who move to 16-1-0 overall with a perfect 11-0-0 mark in conference play. The Engineers saw their eight-game unbeaten streak come to an end as they slip to 8-8-6 overall and 6-4-1 in ECAC Hockey.

The two teams played a balanced first period before Cornell gained the advantage before the end of the frame. Freshman Jessica Campbell (Melville, SK/Pursuit of Excellence) made it a 1-0 game at 19:38 after she collected the puck just inside the zone and sent a slapshot from the far circle past RPI netminder Sonja van der Bliek (Toronto, ON/Toronto Jr. Aeros).

Campbell's goal gave the visitors momentum as the Big Red struck twice in the opening 1:08 of the second stanza. Rookie Brianne Jenner (Oakville, ON/Canada U-22) pushed it to 2-0 after she corralled a pass at the top of the circle and sent a quick shot in at just 21 seconds.

Sophomore Lauriane Rougeau (Beaconsfield, PQ/Dawson College) made it a three-goal advantage less than 47 seconds later as she skated through the circle and behind the net. Caught in a scramble, van der Bliek was not able to get back into position as Rougeau wrapped it into the open left corner.

The Engineers would cut the deficit at the 8:49 mark as junior Kristen Jakubowski (Colorado Springs, CO/The Northwood School) collected a cross-ice pass from sophomore Andie Le Donne (Toronto, ON/Durham Lightning) and skated down the far boards. Nearing the goal-line, she sent a backhanded pass at the net, which deflected off a defender's skate and past the goalie.

Cornell wasted little time in getting the goal back as White slid in through the far circle and sent a wrist shot past van der Bliek at 11:17. Freshman Alyssa Gagliardi (Raleigh, NC/Shattuck St. Mary's) made it a 5-1 advantage on the power play as she ripped a shot from the top of the slot which beat the RPI netminder glove side at 15:57.

The Engineers tried to make a comeback but could not capitalize. Sophomore Taylor Horton (St. Thomas, ON/Bluewater Hawks) had one of the best looks down-low to, but was denied by rookie netminder Lauren Slebodnick (Manchester, NH/Cushing Academy), who finished with 15 saves.

Sophomore Laura Fortino (Hamilton, ON/Stoney Creek Jr. Sabres) netted the Big Red's final tally in the third period, finding her own rebound through a scramble in front on the power play.

In goal for the Engineers, van der Bliek shouldered the loss, stopping 32 shots in 53:42. Sophomore Shannon Ramelot (Bloomfield Hills, MI/Honeybaked U19) came on in relief, making three saves.

The Engineers are back in action on Saturday hosting Colgate at 4pm. Cornell heads to Union for a 4pm match-up against the Dutchwomen.
