TROY, N.Y. – Senior Stephanie Caouette scored four goals, including the last two in regulation, as the Rensselaer women's lacrosse team came back from a four-goal deficit to edge Skidmore College, 12-11, in overtime. With the win, the Engineers improve to 5-2 overall and 1-0 in the Liberty League, while the Thoroughbreds drop to 4-2 (0-1 Liberty League).

Trailing 10-8 late in the second half, Caouette (Wynantskill, NY/Columbia) brought the hosts level, scoring goals with 2:00 and 1:31 left in regulation time. Both unassisted, Caouette brought her season goal total to 13.

Sophomore Alissa Peterson (Gaithersburg, MD/Quince Orchard) gave the Engineers an 11-10 lead, 50 seconds into overtime, before senior Afton Marshall (Windham, NH/Salem) netted the eventual game-winning goal with 3:02 to play in the extra session. Marshall also earned the assist on Peterson's go-ahead marker.

Skidmore senior Lauren Madden (Huntington, NY/St. Anthony's) scored with six seconds on the clock to cap the scoring. The goal was her fourth of the game and 15th of the season.

The Thoroughbreds got off to a fast start, scoring six of the first eight goals of the game, in the opening 21 minutes of play. Madden notched three of those tallies, while senior Lindsay Stavola (Montauk, NY/East Hampton) recorded a goal and an assist in the early scoring run.

RPI fought back, scoring the next five goals, to take a 7-6 advantage with 24:04 to play in the second half. Peterson helped power the Engineers' comeback scoring two goals, while senior Jen Greenwood (Sandy Hook, CT/Newton) put the hosts in front, scoring the clubs seventh goal.

Two straight Skidmore tallies – by sophomore Lexi Melville (Syosset, NY/Syosset) and Stavola – gave the Thoroughbreds back the lead (8-7), before Greenwood evened things at 8-8 with 19:48 remaining.

Senior Lauren McCarthy (Ipswich, MA/Ipswich) and Stavola then netted back-to-back goals to give Skidmore a two-goal cushion with 4:09 to go in regulation, before Caouette scored twice to send the game to OT.

Rensselaer sophomore goaltender Allie Arnal (Lakewood, NY/Phillips Exeter Academy) made seven saves to earn the victory (5-2), while Thoroughbreds junior netminder Rachel Klein (Far Hills, NJ/Newark Academy) made five stops in a losing effort (4-2).
