Box Score

TROY, N.Y. – Clarkson University senior David Kinney came in to shut the door in the bottom of the ninth inning, preserving a, 2-1, victory over Skidmore College, in game 1 of the Liberty League Tournament, this afternoon at Robison Field. With the win, the Golden Knights improve to 18-17 overall and advance to the 12pm game tomorrow afternoon, while the Thoroughbreds fall to 26-12 and will play tomorrow at 9am.

Kinney (Mexico, NY/Mexico) entered the game with the bases loaded and nobody out in the bottom of the ninth. The righthander allowed one run to score on a groundout to second, before issuing an intentional walk to Skidmore freshman Jeremy Selecky (Roseland,NJ/St. Peter's Prep) to once again fill the bases. He then struck out the next the next two batters swinging to earn the save.

Golden Knights starter David Goerold (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) picked up the win, allowing a run on four hits over 8.0 innings. He struck out seven without surrendering a walk. Skidmore's Trevor Brucato (Stamford, CT/Bronville) took the tough-luck loss tossing a 9.0-inning complete game, giving up two runs on four hits. He finished with eight strikeouts and two walks.

Freshman David Wixted (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenedehowa) got the visiting Golden Knights on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning, when he plated classmate Dan Lenney (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) on a single down the leftfield line.

With two outs in the top of the fourth, Clarkson scored what would turn out to be the game-winning run when senior right fielder Garrett Russell (Lake George, NY/Lake George) hit his third home run of the year over the fence in right.

Skidmore senior Rob Rubenstein (Highland Park, NJ/Highland Park) recorded the only two-hit game for either team, going 2 for 4 with a run scored. Thoroughbreds' catcher Logan Arena (Upton, MA/Nipmuc Regional) went 1 for 4 with a double.

Russell ended up 1 for 4 with a run and a run batted in for the Golden Knights, while Wixted finished 1 for 4 with an RBI.
