TROY, N.Y. – Senior David Kinney went 5 for 6 with a home run and four runs batted in to lead the Clarkson baseball team to a 17-3 victory over Rensselaer in Liberty League Tournament action, this afternoon at Robison Field. With the win, the Golden Knights improve to 19-17 overall and advance the championship round, tomorrow at 11am. The Engineers drop to 24-15.
Kinney (Mexico, NY/Mexico) paced a St. Lawrence offense that wrapped out 23 hits, including three doubles and three home runs. Freshman David Wixted (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) went 3 for 6 with two runs scored and five runs batted in, while senior Garrett Russell (Lake George, NY/Lake George) finished 2 for 5 with a home run and four RBI.
Golden Knights sophomore righthander Bryan Chudy (Goshen, NY/Goshen) earned the win (7-2), going 8.0 innings, while allowing three runs (2 earned) on six hits, with five strikeouts and four walks.
Clarkson broke onto the board early, scoring four times in the each of the first two innings. Russell highlighted the four-run first with a three-run home run down the leftfield line, while Wixted drove in a pair with a double to left in the second.
Wixted then came through with an RBI-single in a two-run Clarkson third inning that gave the visitors a 10-1 lead. Kinney belted a three-run homer of his own in the fourth as the Golden Knights tacked on five more runs on four hits.
The Engineers battled back with a run in the fifth on
Kyle LaVigne's (Ashland, MA/Ashland) second home run of the season – a solo shot that brought the score to 15-2.
Pinch-hitter
Markus Delello (Sidney, NY/Sidney) drove in RPI's third run with a groundout in the seventh. A two-run home run in the eighth inning by Wixted, following a Kinney single, capped the scoring for the Golden Knights.

The Engineers need to win this afternoon's game against St. Lawrence and then defeat Clarkson twice tomorrow (11am) in order to take the Liberty League title.
