Golf Comes Back to Win Duke Nelson Title

Mader finishes as runner-up; Engineers shave 19 strokes from day one

Final Results

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Rensselaer came from 15 strokes back and a sixth place tie on day one to capture the 28th Annual Duke Nelson Tournament. Action took place at the par-71 Ralph Myhre Golf Course on the campus of Middlebury College.

The Engineers fired a red-hot 294 on day two to shave 19 strokes off their Saturday score to earn the win (607). Three players took nine or more strokes off their day one performance to help aid the victory. Skidmore fired its second 306 of the weekend to finish in second place with a 612, while the host school shaved two strokes off its score for a 618, good for third place.

Hamilton's Greg Scott, a member at Ralph Myhre and a native of nearby New Haven, earned medalist honors after edging Rensselaer's Brandon Mader in a playoff. Each finished with a two-day total of 145, but it was Scott who came out on top, sinking a 15-footer to eagle the 492-yard par-5 hole. Scott stuck a four iron to set up the tourney-winning putt, while Mader finished the hole with a par.

Following Mader (72-73) for the Engineers was Grant Rosener (77-75), who was seventh overall, Craig Bokenfohr (81-73), who was 16th and Michael Souliotis (83-74), who was 22nd. Jamie Jackson (88-74) also competed for RPI, which has now won the Duke Nelson in two of the last three years.
