2013-14 Men's Hockey Schedule | Ticket Information
TROY, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's hockey captains have been announced and senior forward Matt Tinordi will wear the 'C' throughout the 2013-14 season. Classmates Brock Higgs and Johnny Rogic, also forwards, are the alternate captains. The announcement was made by eighth-year head coach Seth Appert.
"It is an honor to announce Matt, Brock and Johnny as our captains for our 2013-14 campaign," Appert said. "RPI Hockey has had captains for over 100 years and these three young men will lead our program with a high commitment to the values of the Engineer Way and to their teammates."
A native of Severna Park, Md., Tinordi played 24 games last season before suffering an injury that kept him out of the lineup for the final 10 contests. He scored four goals, including a pair of game-winners, with an assist, while registering 14 penalty minutes. One of his game-winning markers came against Dartmouth in a 3-0 Big Red Freakout! win in February.
The former Olds Grizzlys standout has 11 goals and 20 points in 79 career games. His most productive offensive season came in 2011-12 when he had 13 points on six goals and seven assists. He had three goals on the power play and eight points (4 goals) in 18 ECAC Hockey contests.
Higgs, who hails from Kingston, Ont., has 61 points on 13 goals and 48 assists in 100 career contests. He is coming off a junior season in which he had a goal and 16 assists with 16 penalty minutes. His lone tally was a shorthanded, game-winner against St. Lawrence in early March. Higgs, who played for the Kingston Voyageurs prior to attending Rensselaer, led the Engineers in scoring as a sophomore when he had three goals and a team-best 20 assists.
Rogic, who is from Vancouver, B.C., has 16 points on eight goals and eight assists in 98 career games. He scored four goals as a freshman, one as a sophomore and three as a junior. He also had four assists last year when he helped the Engineers finish second in the ECAC Hockey standings – its highest since the 1992-93 team was also the runner-up. RPI had a 12-7-3 league mark and an 18-14-5 overall record. It finished the regular season with a 10-2-0 record, including a six-game winning streak.
