TROY, N.Y. - Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's basketball student-athlete
Sarah Wetmore has been selected to the Capital One Academic All-District 3 Team and is now eligible for National Academic All-America consideration. She is a civil engineering / transportation engineering major with a cumulative grade point average of 3.45.
A native of Sudbury, Mass., Wetmore leads the Liberty League in scoring, averaging 19.2 points per contest. She is also first on the team in rebounding (7.5 per game) and steals (42) and second in assists (47). She has made 40.1 percent (121 of 302) of her shots, including 23.3 percent (21 of 90) from three-point range, and 82.9 percent (102 of 123) of her free throws. She is fourth in the league in free throw shooting, fifth in steals (2.2 per game) and sixth in rebounding.
The Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School graduate is fifth in school history with 1,409 career points, just 11 away from fourth. Her 365 points this year is 14th for a single season, five shy of 13th place. Wetmore is 13th in career rebounding with 610.
Last season she played 24 games, averaging 13.8 points and 6.6 rebounds - both second on the team - with 68 assists, 40 steals and 13 blocked shots. She was an All-Liberty League Honorable Mention selection and chosen to the Liberty League All-Tournament Team.
Wetmore led the team in scoring (15.7 points) and rebounding (7.6 per game) and was second in assists (49) in 2010-11 when she was an All-League Second Team choice and named to multiple All-Tournament Teams after missing the previous season due to injury. As a freshman she was the league's Rookie of the Year after finishing second on the team in scoring (13.4 points per game) and third in rebounding (5.0 per game). She was first in steals (52) and third in assists (42).
Off the court Wetmore has experience with the Rhode Island Department of Transportation as well as with Rensselaer's Campus Planning and Facilities Design department. She has been a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and is affiliated with the American Society of Civil Engineers, Chi Epsilon chapter. She has been on the Dean's List eight semesters and chosen to the Liberty League All-Academic each year.
