TROY, N.Y. - Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete
Adam Updegrove has been chosen as the inaugural Liberty League Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year, it has been announced. Updegrove recently graduated after playing four years of soccer and three years as a diver. The award, which is presented to a senior who has exhausted his eligibility, is voted on by the Liberty League administrators.
A native of Carson City, Nev., Updegrove was a mechanical engineering major and psychology minor with a 3.98 cumulative grade point average heading into the Spring 2013 semester. He was a two-time Capital One National Academic All-America in soccer who had
internships with Chromalloy Nevada, Stress Engineering Services and GE Energy He also spent a semester abroad in Singapore.
Updegrove, who is working toward his Masters in Business Administration at Rensselaer, also participated in the Festival Chorus and is a member of Tau Beta Pi National Engineering Honor Society.
In soccer, the Carson High School graduate was a two-time All-Liberty League selection and two-year captain. In 64 career games, he scored seven goals with three assists for 17 points while helping the Engineers to the NCAA Tournament Second Round twice. Off the diving board, he posted numerous top five finishes, including this year when the team was second in the league meet.
