Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in at the national event, an 8k race over the Kings Island Golf Center.
Andrews was 52nd overall. Both competitors finished under 25 minutes and set personal bests.
Fazio (East Greenwich, RI / East Greenwich) crossed in a time of 24:32.5, averaging 4:56.3 per mile. He was only four-tenths of a mile out of the 25th spot and less than a second from 23rd. Andrews (New Woodstock, NY / Fabius-Pompey) posted a time of 24:57.5, which is a 5:01.3 pace. He was less than two seconds shy of finishing in the top 50 in the nation.
This is the first NCAA Championship appearance for Fazio and Andrews, who qualified by finishing eighth and sixth, respectively, at the Atlantic Regional last Saturday. RPI, which is coached by
John Lynch, finished that meet in fourth place out of 40 teams.
