Benjamin Fazio has been chosen as the Liberty League Men's Cross Country Performer of the Week, it has been announced.
Fazio (East Greenwich, RI / East Greenwich) became the school's first National All-America in men's cross country when he finished 26th at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship, an 8k race over the Kings Island Golf Center in Mason, Ohio, on Saturday. He crossed in a personal-best time of 24:32.5, averaging 4:56.3 per mile, and was only four-tenths out of the 25th spot and less than a second from 23rd. It was the first NCAA Championship appearance for Fazio, who finished first among the Liberty League competitors who were in the field.
This is the first weekly award of the season for Fazio, who qualified for the national meet by finishing eighth in the NCAA Atlantic Regional. He ran the 8k Genesee Valley Park course in a time of 25:25.2 on November 15.
