TROY, N.Y. - Guy Leboeuf, who recently completed a four-year career with the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's hockey team, has signed an amateur try out contract with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League. Bridgeport is the top minor league affiliate of the New York Islanders.

In 136 career games, the defenseman from West Palm Beach, Fla., scored nine goals with 16 assists for 25 points. He also had 66 penalties for 154 minutes.

"This is a great opportunity that Guy has earned in the AHL," said Rensselaer head coach Seth Appert. "His overall game has developed immensely over his four years and we look forward to watching him continue to grow as a professional."

In 36 games this season, Leboeuf had three goals, including two shorthanded tallies, and four assists with 57 penalty minutes (23 infractions). He was fourth on the team in defensemen scoring and second in overall penalty minutes. He played all 22 ECAC Hockey games, scoring two goals with two assists.

Leboeuf's junior year was when he set career-highs in assists with eight and points with nine. He played 37 games that season. He had seven points (3 goals, 4 assists) in 33 games as a sophomore and two goals in 30 contests as a freshman.

A business and management major, he is a Dean's List student who has been an ECAC Hockey All-Academic selection each season.

Bridgeport, which is in 11th place in the American League's Eastern Conference, has 17 games remaining. It is set to play three games in the next three days beginning tonight. The Sound Tigers are scheduled to host the Worcester Sharks, who have signed Lebeouf's classmate Brock Higgs, on Saturday at 7pm.
