TROY, N.Y. – ECAC Hockey has announced its year-end award winners and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete
Heidi Huhtamaki was named to the All-Rookie Team, following a strong first season with the Engineers.
A freshman from Espoo, Finland, Huhtamaki played in 29 games for Rensselaer this season, registering three goals and 12 assists for 15 points. She led all Engineers defenseman in assists and points, while netting one power-play and one game-winning tally. She was assessed just three minor penalties for six minutes.
In 20 ECAC Hockey contests, Huhtamaki notched two goals and seven assists for nine points, while taking two penalties for four minutes. A former Espoo Blues standout, she is the top scoring freshman blue-liner in the league, ranking 15th amongst all defensemen scoring and is eighth among all freshmen.
Huhtamaki was the captain of KS Noux during the 2007-08 season, before being named a Finnish Women's League All-Star in her final season of 2012-13. Her team won the league championship that same year.
The Engineers went 10-20-3 overall this season, including a 6-14-2 mark in ECAC Hockey play.
